Chondromyxoid Fibroma of the Ethmoid Sinus Complicated by a Brain Abscess

چکیده
Chondromyxoid fibroma (CMF) is a relatively rare bone tumor that was first described by Jaffe and Lichtenstein in 1948. CMF of the sinonasal tract is very rare. A 28-year-old male presented with long-standing, intermittent, pulsatile pain in the right temporal area. A computed tomography scan showed a 20 × 19 mm round, bony density in the right ethmoid sinus with fluid collection in the ethmoid and frontal sinuses. Additionally, a cystic lesion with surrounding edema was found in the right frontal lobe. The patient underwent a partial ethmoidectomy and frontostomy. A histological examination showed polygonal and stellate cells in a myxoid and chondroid background with a pattern of lobulation and plaque-like calcification. The bone lesion was revealed as a CMF of the ethmoidal sinus, and the frontal lobe cystic lesion was a brain abscess associated with the CMF. We present the case of a CMF of the ethmoid sinus complicated by a brain abscess.

A rare cause of exophthalmos: cemento-ossifying fibroma.
Cemento-ossifying fibroma is a benign fibroosseous lesion that contains fibrous tissue and calcified tissue resembling bone, cementum or both. It is frequently seen in the mandibula and maxilla, but it may rarely affect the ethmoid sinus. In this report, we presented computed tomography findings of an ossifying fibroma of the ethmoid sinus associated with exophthalmos. A 25-year-old woman prese...

Ossifying fibroma is a benign fibro-osseous tumour that rarely involves the ethmoid sinuses and orbit. It is classified as a benign fibroosseous lesion, a term that is synonymous with a variety of lesions reported in the literature. Recurrence rate with deleterious effects in cases of extramandibular ossifying fibroma is the impetus for open en bloc resection of the tumour. Continuously evolvin...

Ossifying fibroma (OF) is a benign fibro-osseous lesion which was first described by Menzel in 1872. It is commonly seen in the head and neck regions and represents an aggressive pattern when the midface and paranasal sinuses are involved. We report a 36 years old white woman with OF in the right ethmoid sinus. Computed Tomography (CT) scan images showed a hyperdense mass. Transnasal endoscopic...

We present the case of a 62-year-old woman with chondromyxoid fibroma of the sphenoid sinus. Chondromyxoid fibroma is a rare bone tumor found most prevalently in long bones, so its presence at the cranial base is especially uncommon. The presence of a monoclonal gammopathy of undermined significance (MGUS) prompted consideration and investigation of a plasma cell disorder; however, CT and MRI f...
